Areas of Use and Reservations

 

The Mathy Center is 58,000 square foot recreational facility which is shared between Viterbo University and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse.  Each entity has dedicated spaces for their members as well as share selected spaces throughout the facility. Shared spaces include the conference rooms, gymnasium, indoor track and the multi-purpose room. Shared spaces may be available for reservations and rentals.

The Mathy Center is home of the Viterbo University Department of Recreation which offers programs such as group fitness, intramurals, special events and more.

 

Areas of Use

Conference Rooms

The  conference room, AMC 129, fits 25 individuals, and can be set up in multiple ways: board room, classroom, and etc. In addition to the table, the conference room is equipped with a blackboard, tables, chairs, screen and projector, as well as has a small sink area.

Reservations Guidelines

Internal requests for the conference room needs to be submitted through the university EMS WebApp system. (Use your Viterbo login username and password. Do not create a new account.)

The conference room may be added to facility requests during the lease request application. 

Use Guidelines

Equipment

Equipment set-up and operation will be left to the conference room users.

Basic instructions for the operation of standard equipment are posted on the conference room bulletin boards, and copies are available upon request.

Mathy Center staff will not assume responsibility for setting-up or operating outside equipment brought in by conference room users. Any outside equipment must be removed immediately following the event. 

Food/Beverages

Any leftover food or beverages brought in for the event are to be removed immediately after the scheduled event. No items are to be left in the refrigerator. Alcohol is not permitted in the Amie L. Mathy Center.

Dining Ware: Conference room users will be responsible for supplying their own dining ware (cups, plates, utensils, napkins, etc.) and removing any excess immediately after the scheduled event.

Fitness Center

The fitness center has free weights, weight machines, cardio equipment, mats, and other equipment associated with weight lifting.

The fitness center is a dedicated area for use by Viterbo University and select Boys & Girls Club full-time staff. To use the fitness center, an individual needs to be at least 18 years old.

Organized athletic team practices are not allowed to occur in the fitness center.

The fitness center is located on second floor on the left side of the building next to the track.

Rules & Guidelines

  • Fitness Center Users are current Viterbo students, employees, paid alumni with a valid ID, and full-time Boys & Girls Club Staff with an approved ID. All Users must use their Viterbo ID to enter the Fitness Center.
  • No children under the age of 18 are permitted in the Fitness Center.
  • Fitness Center Attendants are on duty to enforce all rules and prevent misuse of the equipment. Attendants are NOT instructors, and are not authorized to give instruction on the equipment.
  • Volunteer spotters are recommended when using free weights.
  • Fitness Center attendants will not spot users.
  • Shirts must be worn and cover the entire back, torso, and shoulders.
  • Sports bras, bathing suit tops, halter-tops, etc. are not acceptable.
  • No street shoes – only clean and dry athletic-type shoes are allowed in the Fitness Center (no sandals or flip-flops).
  • No food or open beverages are permitted.
  • Only bottled drinks in plastic containers with screw on lids are permitted.
  • Be considerate by allowing others to work in between your multiple sets or repetitions.
  • All equipment should be returned to the Fitness Center after use.
  • Wipe down equipment after each use.
  • All weights and equipment are to be returned to the proper location after use.
  • Chalk use is not permitted in the Fitness Center.
  • Be aware and courteous of others around you.

Gymnasium

Gym Reservation Policy

  • The Mathy Center gymnasium courts are available by reservation to these Viterbo University groups: academic departments and programs, intramural leagues, registered student organizations, and varsity athletic teams.
  • Reservations are made through and approved by the Director of Recreational Sports.
  • Reservations must be made and approved at least seven days in advance of the date and time requested.
  • Intramural Leagues and Boys & Girls Club programming are given priority scheduling in accordance with the Mathy Center Administrator Handbook.
  • Depending upon availability, groups associated with academic departments and programs and/or registered student organizations will be limited to usage of one court for a 1.5 hours per event twice per week.
  • Procedures for use of the gym by Viterbo varsity athletic teams are outlined in the Mathy Center Administrator Handbook.

Open Gym Hours

  • The gymnasium courts will be made available daily to students and employees of Viterbo University for open gym hours. Open gym hours are scheduled for students and employees who are not engaging in academic programs, intramurals, student organizations, or varsity athletics practice or competition.
  • Interested students and employees should check the posted Gym Schedule for court availability.

Indoor Track

The track is located on the second floor of the Mathy Center; the four lane track is used for indoor walking and running. The track is 1/8 of a mile around, with 8 laps equaling 1 mile. The track is a shared space between Viterbo University and the Boys & Girls Club.

Sun, Tues, Thu - Counterclockwise Run/Walk 

Usage Guidelines

  • The track may be used for walking, jogging, or running.
  • The distance of the track is 1/8 mile. (8 laps = 1 mile)
  • Approved footwear is required (closed-toed athletic shoes)
  • Track users promote safe track conditions by cooperating and using designated speed lanes and direction.
  • Please do not jog, walk, or run more than two abreast and block lanes.
  • Exercise caution when entering the track.
  • Please stretch at one of the areas off the track.
  • Spectators are not permitted on the track at any time.
Lockers

Lockers are available for drop-in use and rental. Drop-In use of lockers permit the use of personal locks during the day. All personal locks must be removed following the visit. All personal locks remaining at the end of the day will be removed. Items will be stored for a one week. Any personal items not collect will then be placed the facility lost and found for no more than a few months. The Lost and Found items are donated to local charities.

Locker rentals are available to Viterbo students, employees, alumni, noonball, and plus one members.

Multi-Purpose Room

The multi-purpose room (MPR) is another shared space used primarily for group fitness classes, Boys & Girls Club programs, sport club practices, and drop in use. Drop in use refers to the times when there are not any activities in progress and the students will be able to use the area to workout in without an instructor. Drop in usage is limited to 45 minutes per visit.

The MPR is located on the first floor kiddy corner from the Boy’s & Girl’s Club Court. 

Reservation Guidelines

The MPR may also be available for reservation by Viterbo classes, departments, and student groups when it is not scheduled. Non-University defined groups must meet certain guidelines.

Usage Guidelines 

  • Use of the MPR for informal programs will be limited to 45 minutes
  • Formal programs should be limited to a time appropriate for the activity but no more than two hours at a time
  • All instructors and program supervisors using the MPR are responsible for the care of the MPR equipment and the will secure the MPR and storage area upon completion of any program.

Conference Room: 

To reserve the Mathy Center conference room (AMC129), you may use the university EMS WebApp as discussed below. 

  • Viterbo University employees and students may self-reserve and request meeting spaces, classrooms, and study rooms via the EMS WebApp. (Use your Viterbo login username and password. Do not create a new account.)
  • There are two types of spaces within the EMS WebApp: reservable and requestable.
  • When you schedule reservable spaces in the EMS WebApp, the system automatically generates a confirmation email. For requestable spaces, they must be approved and a manual confirmation will be sent out. If you do not have a confirmation email, you do not have the room reserved. You must reserve the space before advertising your event.

 

All other Mathy Center spaces: 

The Mathy Center reservation form is under construction. Until it is available, contact the Mathy Center by email mathycenter@viterbo.edu and include date, start and end time, along with name of the group requesting use.

Usage and setup fees may be required for some events.
