English, Spanish, and World Languages Department

In the English department, we prepare students to succeed in careers that value critical thinking, writing, artistry, researching, teaching, and a variety of other skills. Additionally, we offer students valuable research and creative opportunities, and invite them to participate in student-led university publications. As faculty and mentors, we value building dedicated relationships with students in the hopes of not only enriching their academic experiences, but providing crucial aspects of a liberal arts education that prepare students for life beyond the university.

The Spanish languages department at Viterbo University prepares students for local, national, and international job markets. Based on American Council on Teaching Foreign Language (ACTFL) standards, we strive to offer students insights into today’s interconnected global society through community involvement, study abroad, research, and scholarly work opportunities. Academic programs include:

World Languages

In addition to English and Spanish, Viterbo University offers introductory-level French, German, and Italian courses to satisfy BA language requirements. Courses are designed for students with no previous foreign language study. Pair work and small group activities using culturally authentic materials are used to develop skills for everyday communication with an emphasis in culture and pronunciation.
