“THE PRESIDENT’S OWN” UNITED STATES MARINE BAND TO GIVE FREE CONCERT AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY OCT. 16; LIMITED TICKETS REMAIN

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Tickets are going fast for a free concert by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

The United States Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Established in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams in 1801 and is believed to have performed at every presidential inauguration since Thomas Jefferson’s that same year. Famed composer and doctor John Philip Sousa served as the band’s director from 1880–92.

Given the title of “The President’s Own” by Jefferson, the United States Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The band appears at the White House an average of 200 times a year, and gives performances ranging from small ensembles, full honors funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, concerts at the National Mall and other locations, and takes part in a national tour each fall.

This concert at Viterbo University is part of the 2023 U.S. Marine Band Concert Tour to the Midwest. Band director Col. Jason K. Fettig has chosen a diverse mix of programs, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos. It is presented by the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are required. Seating is general admission, and is first-come, first-served. Tickets will only be available in-person at the Viterbo box office, which is open Tuesday–Friday from 2–5 p.m. For more information, including group inquires, contact the box office at 608-796-3100 or boxoffice@viterbo.edu.

Important Notes: Tickets do not guarantee a seat and likely will not be available on the day of the concert. The theatre doors open at 7 p.m. Patrons are advised to arrive early. Large bags and backpacks are not permitted.
