On the first day of National Library Week we invite you to the first ever Right to Read Day!
The American Library Association designed today to be a "national day of action" in defense of libraries and the freedom to read.
With censorship and book bans on the rise in local communities and state legislatures here are some things you can do to help defend libraries, the first amendment, and your right to read:
- Borrow a library book at risk of being banned.
- Write a letter to the editor or to an elected leader in support of freedom to read and against book bans.
- Attend a meeting of local officials or library or school board.
- Stage a public event or peaceful protest in support of libraries.
- Report censorship
