Opportunities for Non-music Majors

Do you want to continue performing, but you don’t plan to major in music? The music department offers these opportunities, open to all students regardless of major:

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is an integral part of the strong musical tradition of Viterbo University and is open to any Viterbo student. The choir performs music from all eras.  International choir tours are optional and occur every four years.  They are an excellent opportunity to sing in historical churches and venues. An entrance audition is required to participate in Concert Choir.

9th Street Singers

9th Street Singers is a select ensemble which sings music of all genres from classical to pop. Emphasis is on vocal flexibility and style, independence on close-harmony parts, and commitment to collaboration in choral singing. An entrance audition is required to participate in 9th Street Singers and auditions are open to all Viterbo students.

REGISTER FOR MUSC 139/339 (1 credit)
Rehearsals: Mon./Wed./Fri. 3:35-4:20 p.m. in the Recital Hall
Auditions: First day of classes at 3:35 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Students wishing to audition should come to this first class.

Music Appreciation

Music Appreciation is designed to enhance the appreciation and enjoyment of music through a survey of Western and non-Western music styles. Class meets twice a week.

Applied Music Lessons

Applied Music Lessons in piano and voice are offered on a limited basis to students with prior musical experience. Registration is by permission of the music department chair and based on instructor availability and a placement audition. Students receive a weekly 25-minute lesson and may be required to attend a weekly studio class.
