Health services provides students with convenient, accessible, comprehensive, high-quality, and low-cost health care. The following are general descriptions of the services provided by health services.
Acute Care
Both walk-in and appointments are available during office hours for acute medical problems such as sore throat, bladder infection, vomiting/diarrhea, injuries, etc. Wait time may vary.
Immunizations
Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Influenza (egg-free vaccine also available) upon request. Fee may be charged and insurance is not accepted as payment.
A variety of immunizations are available to meet departmental and university requirements. Contact health services at 608-796-3806 for complete list and cost of vaccine. Appointments are required.
Tuberculosis (TB) Testing - $10 fee
TB Skin testing is provided to all Viterbo students and staff upon request. TB testing is a requirement for all students in the nursing, dietetic, and education programs. The student must be able to return to have the test read within 48 to 72 hours. Testing is not available on Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Laboratory Testing
Laboratory services include rapid strep throat screening, dipstick urinalysis, pregnancy testing.
Consultation, Evaluation, and Referral
With the student's permission, consultations and referrals can occur with several on/off campus offices, including, but not limited to: personal health care provider, local clinics and hospitals, counselors, parents, residence life, faculty, advisors, etc. RN may provide medical evaluation prior to referral(s) being made.
Medication Dispensing
Over-the-counter medications are free of charge. Health services has a selection of over-the-counter medications available to students for a variety of illnesses. Typically a one-two day supply is given. Prescription antibiotics may be ordered for positive strep throat and urinalysis screens per physician protocols.
Minor Injuries
Care may be provided for minor sprains, strains, cuts, abrasions, and contusions. More serious injuries will be referred to a local health care provider. Health Services can provide various equipment for student use including crutches, arm slings, hot/cold packs, and a wheelchair.
Patient Education
Each visit is an opportunity for students to be educated about their health, medical care, and lifestyle choices. Information regarding medications received will be provided as well as instruction for follow-up care at home if necessary. A variety of educational materials are available in health services for students including pamphlets and videos on various health topics.
Other Services
Health services will provide sharps containers to diabetic students for safe disposal of needles. Sick trays can be arranged for on-campus students who are too ill to go to the cafeteria for meals. Health education can be provided to groups upon request.
