VITERBO EMPLOYEES HONORED AT ANNUAL ROSE AWARDS CEREMONY
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Benjamin Gonzales, theatre and musical theatre, was named the 2025 Teacher of the Year at the annual Viterbo University Rose Awards ceremony May 1.
“Benjamin has a genuine care for the well-being of his students and it shows in everything he does,” wrote the student who nominated him for the award. “In class, he both challenges and gives room for grace for his students. He knows what his students are capable of and wants them to succeed, and he also understands that life happens and will look for a path to help support that student academically and personally.”
Sheila Severson, president’s office, was named Staff of the Year.
“Sheila consistently exceeds expectations in her role and embodies the very spirit of Viterbo University through her dedication, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to our community,” wrote the person who nominated her for the award. “She is the backbone of this university. So many times during daily interactions, the phrase ‘let’s ask Sheila’ is said. She is our trusted advisor and a wealth of knowledge.”
Others honored at the Rose Awards were:
- The Center for Professional Learning received the Pax et Bonum Award, which is given in recognition of demonstrating the Franciscan values of service, respect, hospitality, stewardship, and joy throughout the Viterbo community.
- Michael Parker, psychology, was presented with the Outstanding Advisor of the Year award for his work with students.
- Cameron Kiersch, nursing, was presented with the St. Francis Mission Award, which is given to a person who has demonstrated exemplary dedication to the mission of the university.
- Receiving Servant Leader Awards for outstanding leadership were Barb Grob, admissions, Nicole Haugen, human resources, Grace Marco, admissions, and Justin McKnight, counseling services.
- Receiving Outstanding Adjunct Professor Awards for their respective schools were Sangita Patel, College of Business, Leadership, and Ethics; Erin Berg, College of Nursing and Health; Brienne Shaker, College of Engineering, Letters, and Sciences; Alethia Kenworthy, Conservatory for the Performing Arts; and Jennifer Speckeen, School of Education.
