Boldly Shaping Ethical Leaders

Viterbo's Doctorate of Education in Ethical Leadership is a transformative, interdisciplinary program designed to develop and support leaders who can meet the demands of 21st century organizations. In the Ed.D. in Ethical Leadership program, students will explore various philosophies of leadership and ethical decision-making skills to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. 

  • Post-master program (graduate degree required)

  • Advances skills in decision making, negotiation, collaboration, and change management

  • Embedded real-world experiences

  • Average of three years to degree completion

  • Low-residency program: Online (synchronous and asynchronous) coursework in the fall and spring, with a one-week summer residency in La Crosse, WI (June 24-28, 2024)
    • Education courses for those in the EdD+Superintendent Licensure course meet weekend in person in La Crosse​​​​​​​
  • Culminating in a dissertation

  • Two tracks:

    • Generalist track (48 credits)

    • Superintendent track for students seeking licensure in the state of Wisconsin (51 credits)

  • Utilizing consulting, research, and projects, this program aims to prepare students to use their gained expertise to support the needs of their current organization and community.

Ed.D. Learning Outcomes

Through the Ed.D. in Ethical Leadership, students will be able to: 

  • Practice leadership with advanced competency consistent with established leadership theory
  • Conceptualize human relationships from a variety of theoretical perspectives and demonstrate empathy and acumen in navigating them
  • Demonstrate leadership behavior consistent with internalized virtues of valuing human dignity, collective action, and servant leadership
  • Read, interpret, and conduct research relevant to leadership practice
  • Identify and discuss their potential role as advocates for improvement in organizational stewardship in the professional communities and larger society they serve
  • Assimilate the knowledge and skills into the competencies required for their specific professional settings
