Service to the University

Jessica Himmer ’06 enjoys life as an entrepreneur, a career choice she would not have any other way. “I grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs and have always admired them,” she explained. “They risk everything to bet on themselves while they dedicate their life to serving others.”

As Himmer chose to follow in those footsteps, she had Viterbo to help prepare her along the way. She described how she refined her leadership skills during college before stepping into the business world. “As a young manager, I felt ready, and I understood that lifelong learning will always be a part of my journey.”

Campus activities such as student government and campus tour guide helped Himmer hone her leadership skills and manage her time while she studied to earn her degree in business administration with an emphasis in entrepreneurship and a minor in psychology. For two years, she was also a resident assistant in the first-year dorms. Himmer attended Stewartville High School in Stewartville, Minn.

Currently, she is a member of the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce and the Onalaska Hilltopper Rotary Club. In past years, she was involved with Viterbo’s Alumni Association, Holmen’s Community Center, the Holmen Business Association, and the La Crosse Area Realtor Association.

She works for @properties La Crosse as a realtor. “The best part of my career is meeting incredible people, each with a unique story. I am grateful for the opportunity to listen to their stories and help them with the next chapter of their lives.”

“For me, selling real estate is more than just a transaction; it is a journey filled with stories and cherished memories,” she elaborated. “It's a true joy to work hard for others and dedicate myself to serving our community.”

Himmer received the Rising Star Under 40 award in 2021 from the 7 Rivers Alliance. She was also awarded Rotarian of the Year in 2020 through the Onalaska Hilltopper Rotary Club.

Receiving the distinguished alumni award means a lot, Himmer said. “Staying connected to the university has provided me with so many opportunities to continue serving,” she said. Although she said that she always appreciates being recognized, “What truly matters to me is the chance to give back to a place that has given me so much.”

Himmer is proud that she can serve the Coulee Region through volunteer work. She is also proud of her profession. “I want to be a leader, a mentor, and a connector. I want to be known for unmatched dedication and determination.” She elaborated on what success means to her. “I crave success and want to surround myself with go-getters who use their success to make a difference.”

To Viterbo students, Himmer offers the advice that they embrace their college years which are often so full of opportunities for personal and professional growth. “Say ‘yes’ to every opportunity to connect with others,” she said. “You will gain lifelong friends and build relationships that will help you throughout your career.”

Himmer wants the world to know that it can depend on her. “My heart is in service to others,” she explains. “My family, friends, my clients, and the community.”
