There was never any doubt for Jorge L. Espat ’84 when he was growing up in Belize that he would go to college. Even in a family with 10 children (all but one boys), his parents viewed investing in education as far preferable to accumulating wealth.

Poet Helps Viterbo Students Find Music in Language

Viterbo Music Professor Mary Ellen Haupert was visiting her daughter in Indianapolis when she spotted Ben Bernthal sitting behind an old-fashioned typewriter and a sign that read “give words, get poems.”

Haupert was intrigued and decided to offer the poet some seemingly random words, and wait for the resulting verse. Bernthal got to work, and soon returned with a fully-formed poem.
