Students and employees are invited to play chess with students at a university in La Crosse’s sister city, Dubna, Russia via Zoom from 10 a.m.–noon on Saturdays beginning Sept. 11. The activity is not designed to be competition based, but instead friendly for all skill levels and as an opportunity for dialogue.

The La Crosse Fire Department Inspector will be here on Sept. 13–15 conducting fire inspections. The Director of Campus Safety requests employees take a few minutes to check their office, work area, and/or apartment for some of the following common fire code violations.
- Extension cords should not be used as a permanent wiring source. They also should not be used to supply power to refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and toasters. These items should be plugged directly into an outlet.
- Surge protectors should not have items plugged into them like refrigerators, toasters, microwaves, or coffee pots.
- Christmas or decorative lights should be temporary and seasonal. They should be taken down if not in season.
- Fire doors cannot be propped open. Campus Safety is in the process of clearly marking fire doors.
- Candles are prohibited. No candles in offices or apartments.
By taking a few minutes to check for the following issues we’ll help keep our campus fire safe and in compliance.
Suicide Prevention Week takes place from Sept. 5–11. Counseling Services has information and awareness displays being held throughout campus during this awareness week.
The Vaccine Reward Program has been extended until Sept. 19. Anyone ages 12 and up who gets their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the deadline will be eligible to to receive a $100 Visa gift card. Proof of insurance, citizenship, or ID is not required.
