VITERBO UNIVERSITY ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES TO OPEN WITH “TIME CAPSULE I” SEPT. 20

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2014–15 Viterbo University One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series will open with “Time Capsule I” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

In “Time Capsule I,” Viterbo music faculty members Mary Ellen Haupert, Ann Elise Schoenecker, and Timothy Schorr will perform Claude Debussy’s Petite Suite, L. 65 for Piano Four-Hands (1886-1889) and three songs from Poèmes de Baudelaire, L. 64 (1886-1889). The second half of the program will feature music by Gabriel Fauré, Cinq mélodies “de Venise,” Op. 58 (1891) and his Dolly Suite for Piano-Four Hands, Op. 56 (1892-1894).

“In commemoration of Viterbo University’s 125th anniversary (1890-2015), each of the “Time Capsule” recitals in this year’s season unearths music that was written approximately 125 years ago,” said Haupert, who serves as the artistic director of Viterbo’s One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series. “Performers include longtime Viterbo artists who have helped to shape the classical music scene in La Crosse.”

Haupert wanted to give audiences a sense of travelling back in time as a way of celebrating this milestone anniversary. “Time travel caught my imagination when I started working out classical programing for this year’s series,” Haupert said. From that idea, each of the four concerts in the series took the theme of a “time capsule” with music written around 1890.

Season tickets for the series are available until Friday, Sept. 19. The series will continue Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. as the Ataria String Quartet presents “Time Capsule II.”
