SPONSOR DAYLONG MUSIC WORKSHOP CONCLUDING WITH FREE CONCERT FEATURING STATE
HIGH SCHOOLS APRIL 8

LA CROSSE, Wis.—A variety of
musical groups representing high schools throughout the state will be at Viterbo
Tuesday, April 8 to attend a daylong choral/vocal workshop which will conclude
with a free concert 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Hosted by the Viterbo music department, the event will feature guest
director William Griffel, director of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and the
university choir. As a soloist and avid barbershop singer, he has recorded for
numerous commercial and professional publishing house recordings.

Over 240 students are expected to
attend the event representing La Crosse’s Aquinas, Assumption (Wisconsin
Rapids), McDonell (Chippewa Falls), Oshkosh West and Mosinee and Hayward high
schools.

In addition to working with Griffel
during the day, students will be able to participate in a vocal master
class taught by Viterbo voice faculty Ann Schoenecker, Diana Cataldi, Dan
Johnson-Wilmot and coach accompanists Judy Stafslien and David Richardson. 

“This will be a very challenging and inspiring experience for the
performers and audience alike. We hope many will have the chance to attend the
culminating 7 p.m. performance. We have a wonderful guest director and the show
will feature a blend of smaller and larger schools from across our region,”
organizer Jean Saladino of the Viterbo music department said.

Those attending the evening event will see performances by
each choir, two soloists chosen by faculty from the master class and combined
choirs in Eric Whitacre’s The Seal
Lullaby; Let Me Fly arrangement by Robert DeCormier; Bridge Over Troubled Water arrangement by Kirby Shaw for men’s
voices and Day Break by Stephen
Paulus for women’s voice.
