VITERBO UNIVERSITY ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES CONTINUES WITH RUSSIAN SOUVENIRS: THE MUSIC OF BEETHOVEN AND TCHAIKOVSKY FEB. 18
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2016-17 Viterbo University One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series continues Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall with Russian Souvenirs: The Music of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, featuring the Artaria String Quartet and guests violist Renée Skerik and cellist Laura Thielke.
The Artaria String Quartet is celebrating their 30th anniversary, and this is their second of two concerts as part of the 2016-17 One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series. This concert will feature performances of Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2 and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Sextet in D Minor, Op. 70, “Souvenir de Florence.”
“The 30th anniversary of the Artaria String Quartet was the inspiration for the theme of this year’s Celebrating Milestones series,” said Mary Ellen Haupert, artistic director for the series. “We are excited to welcome back two former Artaria members, Renée Skerik and Laura Thielke, to help us celebrate this wonderful milestone.”
The final concert of the series will take place Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. with Sonatas from 1917: The Music of Debussy and Respighi featuring violinist Nancy Oliveros and pianist Mary Ellen Haupert. The concert will celebrate 100 years of Wisconsin Public Radio, a sponsor of the series, which was founded in 1917.
The February concert is sponsored by the Lukasek Family Endowment Fund. Wisconsin Public Radio is the media sponsor for the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music performances.
Tickets are $22 for general admission seating. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
