Concert Choir and 9th Street Singers to Give
Concert Saturday

The
Viterbo Concert Choir and 9th Street Singers will perform a fall concert at
Maria Angelorum Chapel at the St. Rose Convent Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. The
event is part of the Viterbo Days and the La Crosse community is invited to
these free events.

The choral program includes a variety of music from early to
contemporary that will be sung in the groups’ upcoming tour to Germany and Austria,
Wednesday, Dec. 18–Thursday, Jan. 2. Music to be performed includes O Magnum Mysterium by Victoria ; Franz
Biebl’s Ave Maria and an arrangement
of Loch Lomond. Randall Stroope’s All My
Heart This Night Rejoices. The 9th
Street Singers will perform arrangements of favorite songs by Irving Berlin, Richard
Rogers, and others. Jean Saladino is the director of both ensembles and Judy
Stafslien is accompanist.

As part of the Viterbo Days celebration, award-winning guest alumna
Juanita Madland ’63 will perform a piano recital from 11 a.m.–noon in the
Viterbo Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Madland has been a music faculty member
at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos since 1990.

The Concert Choir and 9th Street Singers tour internationally every
four years. For this year’s tour the choir will be singing at Munich’s St.
Michael’s Church, St. Peter’s Church in Vienna and at the Melk Abbey for the
midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. In addition the choirs will sing concerts and
services in numerous small towns in the Wachau region. Students will also
attend a production of Die Fledermaus
at the Vienna Staatsoper on New Year’s eve. Faculty leading the group will be
Dan Johnson-Wilmot, Judy Stafslien and Jean Saladino.

There will be a free-will offering to help students participating
in the tour.
