“AMERICA’S TROUBADOUR” LARRY LONG TO PRESENT “ELDER’S
WISDOM, CHILDREN’S SONG” AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY MARCH 22
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – Renowned singer-songwriter Larry Long will present “Elder’s
Wisdom, Children’s Song” from 9 a.m.–noon Saturday, March 22 in the Viterbo
University Reinhart Center room 107.
“Elder’s Wisdom, Children’s Song” is
recognized by Smithsonian Folkways as original American folk art. The event
will feature the creation of music in honor of Long’s friend, Marie Leon LaCroix,
FSPA. Sr. LaCroix, now retired, founded Viterbo’s theatre department and served
as chair for many years.
Long is a Smithsonian Folkways recording
artist and has performed at major concerts and festivals throughout the world, including
the Awesome Africa Festival in South Africa, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, at the
Hollywood Bowl with Kris Kristofferson, and at Madison Square Garden with Joan Baez
and others for Pete Seeger’s 90th Birthday Celebration.
Author, historian, actor, and
broadcaster Studs Terkel described Long as “a true American troubadour.”
Long will be joined at Viterbo by
fellow musician Cory Wong, the go-to guitarist, composer, and arranger for
dozens of artists throughout the upper Midwest.
The event is part of the annual
Paula Ripple Comin Endowed Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public
and is suitable to people of all ages. The Paula Ripple Comin Endowment has sponsored
nationally known speakers at Viterbo University for the past decade.
