Board of Advisors newsletter: December 2019

Message from President Glena Temple

Dear Board of Advisors Members,

I hope you enjoy the first edition of the Viterbo University board of advisors newsletter. This new publication will arrive in your email inbox every other month and will contain news and interesting feature articles about Viterbo people, programs, and fellow board of advisors members.

President Glena Temple

The first board of advisors meeting convened in 1953 and was chaired by none other than Leo Murphy of Murphy Center fame. The purpose of the board remains the same to this day, to provide important connections and insight into community and employer needs and trends. I thank you for your time and effort in serving on the board. It is much appreciated.

Internships are a vital part of the Viterbo educational experience, and the university relies on a close relationship with area businesses and organizations to provide these opportunities. Internships are a mutually beneficial relationship however, as our students have a great deal to offer and enjoy an excellent reputation. Internship experiences are also a great way to find the employees of tomorrow. In this issue you will meet marketing student Jordenne Butler, who just completed an excellent internship experience at Kaplan Professional in La Crosse.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next board of advisors meeting Thursday, March 26. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Glena

Upcoming meetings

Fine Arts Center Dick Record Entrance

Dick Record: A Big Voice for Viterbo

In the past half century, Viterbo University has seen a lot of change, with five presidents overseeing an ever-evolving and growing campus, but there have been a few constants. One of them is Dick Record, whose involvement and support goes back to the mid-1970s.

Leo Murphy: Viterbo's Pioneering Advisor

It’s telling that only a month after Leo Murphy died in 1972, Viterbo University announced that the cornerstone building of its campus would bear Murphy’s name. A tireless supporter of the institution, he led the fundraising effort for the Fine Arts Center.
