Viterbo faculty, staff, and administrators are eligible for the Viterbo University Servant Leader Award in recognition of demonstrable servant leader qualities and characteristics in inter-personal relationships, performance, and achievement.
The award is given annually to a maximum of five persons without regard to status (i.e., administrator, staff, faculty, or student).
A servant leader:
- Puts others first: Consistently prioritizes the needs of students and colleagues and seeks ways to support their success and growth.
- Leads through service: Demonstrates leadership by helping, mentoring, and empowering others.
- Builds community: Fosters a positive, inclusive environment where people feel respected, supported, and valued.
- Acts with integrity: Demonstrates honesty, humility, accountability, and ethical decision-making.
- Listens and responds: Actively seeks input, listens carefully, and responds thoughtfully to concerns and ideas.
- Models compassion and respect: Treats everyone with dignity, empathy, and fairness.
- Goes above and beyond: Regularly takes initiative to help others, often without recognition or expectation of reward.
