What is Direct Admission?

If you are a high school student who knows you want to be a nurse, Viterbo University’s direct-entry BSN program could be right for you.

Our direct-entry nursing program allows you to begin classes at Viterbo as a nursing student instead of applying to the BSN program later in your college career. Because you begin your pathway towards becoming a nurse immediately after high school, you ca seve money by taking focused courses.

Direct-Entry BSN Eligibility Requirements

The first step towards entering our direct-entry BSN program is to apply online for admission to Viterbo University.

Incoming first-year students (from high school) must meet the following criteria for our direct-entry nursing program:

  • High school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Completion of one year of high school chemistry, or equivalency, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of two years of high school algebra, or equivalency, with grades of C or better

Direct admission may not be guaranteed for qualified applicants who apply after the Feb. 1 priority deadline.

Professional Nursing Sequence Requirements

To begin the professional sequence direct-entry BSN students must: 

  • maintain full time enrollment.
  • maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in their first year.
  • affirm interest in the program and state a preferred starting semester (fall or spring) by completing the Professional Nursing Sequence application by April 1.
  • achieve grades of BC or higher in all nursing prerequisite courses,includin:
    • ENGL 103 or ENGL 105 or ENGL 195
    • PSYC 171
    • BIOL 104 and BIOL 114
    • CHEM 120 and CHEM 121 OR CHEM 106

All direct-admission students who meet the above requirements will be guaranteed admission into the professional sequence of the program in either the fall or spring of their sophomore year.

Alternative Admission Options

If you do not meet the above criteria for direct admission during your first year but you meet the requirements for the professional nursing sequence, you will apply to the program via the holistic review application.
