Don and Norma Vinger
Tremendous supporters of numerous community causes, Don and Norma Vinger have devoted a lifetime of giving generously of their resources and time in their humble and quiet way. “Many good things have happened to us because of the community, so we feel it’s important to give back to the community in return,” Don said. “We’ve had good lives and we are very thankful.” The Vingers feel the La Crosse area is blessed with excellent hospitals and schools. Health care, education, and local charitable and civic organizations have been the focus of their support and volunteerism over the years. Both are very proud of the positive impact of the organizations they support and the great difference they make in the lives of people. The nationally recognized Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care at Gundersen Health System was named in Norma’s honor. The Center was a gift from Norma’s late brother, Norman Gillette Jr. and his family. Before losing his courageous battle with cancer, Norman provided the funds in honor of his sister, who was a breast cancer survivor. The creation of the Center was to thank Norma for donating her kidney to him years earlier. The gift of her kidney allowed Norman to pursue a full and productive life. Don and Norma Vinger met when they were both students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. They have been happily married for 53 years. They have two adult children, Eric (DeeDee) and Christopher (Kelly), and two grandchildren, Kayla and C.J.
