The Viterbo community is invited to a poetry reading by Oscar Mireles on Thursday, Oct. 13, 1–2 p.m. in MRC 570. Oscar Mireles is a published poet, editor, and educator. Mireles’ poetry has been published in over 50 different publications. He is the editor of three anthologies titled I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin, the most recent one published in 2014. Oscar has also been the executive director of Omega School for the past 22 years. He is currently associate executive director at Centro de la Comunidad Unida/United Community Center (UCC) in Milwaukee. 

The V-Hawks for Life will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:15 p.m. in the Sister Thea Bowman Center. The theme is “What is abortion” is pizza will be served.

There are two weeks left to register for Seven Rivers Undergraduate Research symposium on Nov. 11. Inauguration Kickball volunteers are needed for Thursday, Oct. 13 from 3–6:30 p.m. There will be food, games, caricatures, a bounce house, pumpkin painting, and some quality kickball entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of areas: setup before 3 p.m., between game/inning games, umpires, score keepers, announcers, and clean up. Email cgburnsgilbert@viterbo.edu if you’re interested or able to help.

Health Services will be offering flu shots on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 2–4 p.m. in the Student Union. Cost for students is $9.00 (Unless in TRIO). Employees $19.00 unless are a member of the VU health insurance. If you are unable to come at this time/date, students can schedule a private appointment through Starfish. Call Sue at 796-3806 for questions.

Celebrate President Trietley’s inauguration with a day of service on Oct. 15 for Inauguration Service Saturday. Click here to learn more and sign up. Registration ends on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Have you had a chance to use the new Echo360 video platform? An “advanced” session will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. via Zoom. Topics will include polling (quizzing), analytics, advanced editing, and the student experience in an EchoVideo course (notes, study guide, Q & A). Notices:

As part of the week long celebration of our new president at Viterbo students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit a prayer/hope/desire for Viterbo University and or Rick Trietley. Participants can do so by writing their thought on a slip of paper and placing it in the FSPA Prayer Wheel, located in the FSPA Prayer Garden. Submissions will be received on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. Prayers will be collected and presented on Thursday, Oct. 13 to the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Slips of paper and pencils can be found in the mailbox at the Prayer Wheel Shelter. 

From IIT: October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Help keep yourself and the university safe by learning more about this growing global issue. IIT will be sharing weekly topics that have been selected for their importance and relevance, to help elevate the knowledge and safety of our campus users. The week two topic is Phishing Scams. Check this out on our SharePoint page and be sure to bookmark: Viterbo IIT Cyber-Security Training.

Registration for the second season of Rec Leagues opens today at 8 a.m. and closes on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. See here for more details and to register. 

The Student Dietetics Association has an apparel fundraiser to raise funds for students to have access to practice test materials for their RD exam. The apparel fundraiser ends on Monday, Oct. 10 and all items will be available for pick-up on Nov. 2 between noon–2 p.m.

Touchstone Magazine is an annual student run art and literary magazine. Paid positions of art editor, graphic and web designer, and promotion and production coordinator are available. No experience necessary. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in these areas to gain experience and build their resumes.
