Viterbo’s Day of Giving is Thursday, Oct. 6. One day can make a huge impact on the lives of Viterbo’s students now and into the future. On Tuesday, Oct. 4 the Viterbo community is invited to celebrate its Franciscan Heritage with a free community lunch during Franny Fest 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. in Assisi Courtyard. Other events this day include the St. Francis Prayer Service, Civility Panel, and St. Francis Liturgy. Visit the St. Francis Week webpage for times and more information.

Employees are welcome to stop by the “Murphy 2nd” Open House on Friday, Oct. 7 from 9–10 a.m. in the business office suite, MRC 214. Come mingle with members of the business office, registrar, and human resources. There is better time than during St. Francis Week to celebrate hospitality and visit with the wonderful folks in that area. Donuts and coffee will be served.

The Viterbo University Conservatory for the Performing Arts presents the musical Footloose Oct. 7–9 in the Viterbo Fine Arts Center Main Theatre. Footloose celebrates the exhilaration of youth, the wisdom of listening to one another, and the power of forgiveness.

The recreation department and Western Tech are hosting a Dodgeball Tournament on Monday, Oct. 17Registration opens today at 8 a.m. and closes Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. 

Health Services will be offering Flu shots on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. during Franny Fest in Assisi Courtyard. Cost for students is $9.00 (SGA covers the first ten dollars). If you are a member of TRIO, the cost will be covered. Employee cost is $19, but if you are on the Viterbo insurance plan, the cost will be billed to them. If you have any questions, contact Health Services at 796-3806 or scdanielson@viterbo.edu.

The military student success office and ethics, society, and culture program will be hosting the Veterans for Peace, Golden Rule Peace Boat Project on Oct. 5, from 2–3:30 p.m. in Brophy 123. The Golden Rule Peace Boat project is a 15-month voyage down the Mississippi, around the Gulf Coast, up the east coast of the U.S. and through the Great Lakes making 100 ports-of-call to raise awareness about the growing danger of nuclear war and to build support for the abolition of nuclear weapons. This event is open to any faculty, staff, or student who are interested. To learn more contact Sam Morris at the Military Student Success office at sdmorris@viterbo.edu or Keith Knutson at kaknutson@viterbo.edu.

Viterbo Community Bike Ride: Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 12:30 p.m. students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn more about how to be a bike commuter in a Bike 101 session in NRC 195 led by Cameron Kiersch followed by a group bike ride. Cameron will provide tips on bike safety, e.g. riding on the road and bike courtesy, essential bike commuting gear, and specific routes in La Crosse. Rides will depart at 1:15 p.m. from Assisi Courtyard. Participants can choose to ride easy (two miles) or moderate (five miles) routes. A limited quantity of bikes with helmets and locks are available to reserve for free to the students at the Mathy Center. Be an inauguration flag bearer: As part of the inauguration festivities on Friday, Oct. 14, there will be a procession of international flags representing the countries of Viterbo students, staff, and alumni. Seventy-four countries will be represented. Flag bearers are needed to honor the diversity of the Viterbo campus. If you are interested, complete this brief survey: https://viterbo.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_55yIrhvB0j7GYBg. The procession will gather in the Fine Arts Center Nola Starling Recital Hall at 1:30 p.m. and process outside (weather permitting) to the west entrance to the Main Theatre. The procession will begin about 1:50 p.m. so that the flags reach the theatre at the designated starting time of 2 p.m. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in the flag procession. Faculty can wear their academic regalia and can sit with the faculty or the other flag bearers. More detailed instructions will be sent in the week leading up to the inauguration.

Wisconsin households are now eligible to order a free package of COVID-19 self-tests. Go to the Say Yes! COVID Test website and place an order for a package of five rapid antigen COVID-19 tests at no cost. Initial supplies will allow each household to order one package that will arrive in 1–2 weeks.

From IIT: October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Help keep yourself and the university safe by learning more about this growing global issue.
