Connections Viterbo Employee Newsletter
A pleasant surprise awaited the approximately 285 new freshmen and their family members faced with the task of moving a carload of belongings into the Viterbo University residence halls the morning of Aug. 22. Greeting them were more than 120 staff and student volunteers, including members of the men’s basketball team (pictured) ready to help. This longtime Viterbo tradition is designed to demonstrate the university’s core value of hospitality and is always popular with the new students and their families. Welcome to the 2019–20 academic year!
It is truly a joy to welcome students back to campus and feel the energy and enthusiasm this transition brings. If you haven’t had the opportunity, I hope you visit our newly renovated spaces in the Reinhart Center and the Fine Arts Center in the near future. The new Skogen Family Welcome Center will serve as a “one-stop” service point for prospective students and families visiting campus. I am grateful to the many benefactors that made these projects possible.
We are currently finalizing a new strategic plan. We have held feedback sessions for the employees, and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the draft with students, alumni, and members of the board of advisors prior to the board of trustees approval in October. I am grateful...
Handshake is Viterbo’s new internship and job board. Handshake replaced Purple Briefcase and will function as the main portal for students and alumni to find internships, jobs (on campus and off), Career Services events, employers visiting campus, and more.
Faculty and staff are invited to create a Handshake account to familiarize themselves with the platform. Handshake yellow hand chairs will travel campus throughout the year, and the Handshake launch party is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 29 from 1–3:30 p.m. outside the Mathy Center front doors. Attend for free t-shirts, cookies, and yellow swag. Questions about Handshake or in-class presentations can be emailed to Alyssa Gostonczik.

All employees and students are asked to update their emergency text message and emergency contact information for the fall semester by Monday, Sept. 30.
The emergency text message system notifies Viterbo students and employees via cell phone text messages of all campus wide emergencies. The emergency contact information is used to notify a family member or friend in case of a medical or other emergency happening to you.
This information can be updated online via Vitnet at http://vitnet.viterbo.edu. Students should click on the Emergency Contact under the Academic Profile section. Employees should click on Emergency Contact under the Supervisor Resources section.
Employees and guests enjoy themselves at the Viterbo Community Dinner Aug. 20.
