The La Crosse Fire Department Inspector will be here on Sept. 13–15 conducting fire inspections. The Director of Campus Safety requests employees take a few minutes to check their office, work area, and/or apartment for some of the following common fire code violations.
- 1. Extension cords should not be used as a permanent wiring source. They also should not be used to supply power to refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and toasters. These items should be plugged directly into an outlet.
- 2. Surge protectors should not have items plugged into them like refrigerators, toasters, microwaves, or coffee pots.
- 3. Christmas or decorative lights should be temporary and seasonal. They should be taken down if not in season.
- 4. Fire doors cannot be propped open. Campus Safety is in the process of clearly marking fire doors.
- 5. Candles are prohibited. No candles in offices or apartments.
By taking a few minutes to check for the following issues we’ll help keep our campus fire safe and in compliance.
