Message from Fr. Conrad Targonski: Today is Spirit of Assisi Day. "On Oct. 27, 1986, Assisi caused the world make a great leap forward towards non-Christian religions, which until then, seemed only like a dream. The encounter, or better collision of religions, is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges of our era in that Pope (Saint) John Paul II invited over 160 world Church leaders to the town of Saint Francis to come together and pray – each in their own tradition – for the world as envisioned by Pope (Saint) John XXIII in Pacem in Terris. On that day, you could hear the world’s heart beat: a brief meeting on the hill, a word or two, a gesture - sufficed for us to see for a moment our original unity.  At the end of the day, a group picture (on the end, Pope John Paul II next to the Dalai Lama) and young Jewish children offering olive branches to all the leaders - Muslims first of all. May it become ignited again in this COVID world and… let the ”Spirit of Assisi”, come upon us all."
