Coming up:

The Viterbo community and the public are invited to view two art exhibits on display on the first floor of the Fine Arts Center outside the main theatre entrances until April 30. Reflections: Learning Through a Pandemic demonstrates the experiences of Wisconsin high school students through the escape of popular culture, snapshots of their environment, and symbols of mystery. Angels and Demons: Exploration of the Afterlife examines the question “What happens after we die?” by high school students from La Crosse Polytechnic school.

President’s Day of Service is Saturday, April 9. There is space for 200 people to give back to 20 non-profits who have asked for support. The recreation department is sponsoring a Spring Golf Scramble at Forest Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, April 26 beginning at 4 p.m. Cost to Viterbo students is $10. Registration is open and closes on Tuesday, April 19.

Join the recreation department and the office of orientation and engagement tonight in the Caf at 7:30 p.m. for Trivia. Tonight’s theme is Slogans/Logos Trivia. Prizes available. No registration required.

The music department will present a Showcase Recital featuring their First and Second Year Music Majors Saturday, April 2 at 7 p.m. in the Nola Starling Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center. The students will perform both classical and musical theatre repertoire. It is free and open to the public with a reception to follow.

The Viterbo community is invited to a book club on April 12 from 11:15 a.m.–12:10 p.m. in MRC 348 to discuss Thomas Moore's book, A Life at Work: The Joy of Discovering what you were Born to Do. In addition to a lively discussion, there will also be food provided. Tyler Flockhart and John Robinson will be facilitating. Come regardless of whether you are able to finish the book. The topic, finding one's calling, is relatable to everyone. There are books available at the reception desk in MRC 374.

Employees: Tuition Remission forms for the 2022–23 academic year are to be completed before April 1, 2022. This is a hard deadline and is to ensure that financial aid has enough time to process them. HR would encourage anyone who is even thinking they might want to take classes or start a program during the 2022–23 academic year to fill one out as forms will not be accepted past April 1, 2022. Join the Viterbo University Conservatory for the Performing Arts and Wonderstruck Theatre Co. as they present the world premiere of The Elephant Speaks Jazz, Friday, April 1–Sunday, April 3 and Saturday, April 9–Sunday, April 10 in the Weber Center for the Performing Arts Lyche Theatre.

Art submissions are being accepted for the All Student Show in the art gallery through April 1. All artists are encouraged to submit 2D and 3D work. Submissions can be put on the table outside of the gallery on the FAC third floor. Artists will be notified by email of acceptance. The All Student Show will open April 27. The Environmental Responsibility Committee and Student Sustainability Club members are seeking nominations for the Spirit of St. Francis Sustainability Award. Nominees can include students, faculty, staff, FSPA members, campus groups, etc. Nominees should meet one or more of the following criteria: Conducts research on the environment/sustainability; Promotes sustainability through projects, programs, innovative solutions, or studies; Collaborates within and around the Viterbo community to promote sustainable change. Nominations are due April 1. There will be no 2 p.m. Rosary today in San Damiano Chapel. Instead, there will be adoration with the Aquinas High School first-year class. All are still welcome to join in spending time with the blessed sacrament.

Students: VUSM-205 Living in a Diverse World Away will be going to Thailand in Spring 2023. This course will provide comprehensive overview of Hmong history in Wisconsin, especially La Crosse, and culminate in a two week trip through northern Thailand to learn about the Hmong and other Hill Tribes, as well as visiting temples, markets, and industries. Applications will be available in the fall 2022 semester and due Oct.1. Interested students who want to learn more can contact faculty member Lin Rauch or Marlene De La Cruz-Guzman. Additional information will be included on the Study Abroad website.
