The Viterbo Equity and Social Justice Committee is organizing a book group to read Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness." This book, published in 2010 and re-released in 2020 with updates, asserts the criminal justice system operates as a form of racialized social control in the United States. The author argues that by targeting communities of color, the American Criminal Justice system both reproduces and preserves institutionalized racism. The reading group will meet twice. The books will be provided for free. If you are interested in joining, contact Tyler Flockhart at trflockhart@viterbo.edu. Also note your preference for Zoom or face-to-face meetings.
