The International Women’s Day Committee invites members of the La Crosse community and beyond to a virtual celebration of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8 from 7–8:30 p.m. CT. The celebration will consist of a panel discussion with a special emphasis on how women are celebrated in their country as well as their experiences in both their country of origin and the U.S. Panelists include Sandra Mpemwangi Balangoy representing Congo, Oresta Felts representing Ukraine, and Thanh Bui-Duquette representing Vietnam. This year’s celebration will take place via Zoom and is free to the public. A cake social for Tom Haas will be held Friday, March 4 from 2–3:30 p.m. in the FAC Hospitality Suite. Come thank Tom for over 22 years of service to the university.

University of Wisconsin department of wildlife ecology professor Timothy Van Deelen will present “Thinking Like a Mountain but Asking the Wrong Questions” as part of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership’s spring lecture series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Nola Starling Recital Hall. The event will also be streamed on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/viterboethics.

Save the Dates for two inaugural graduating senior recognition events: a senior dinner with the president (graduating seniors only) on Thursday, May 12, 5:30–7 p.m. in the Mathy Center and the Sending and Blessing (students and their families/special guests) on Friday, May 13, 8 p.m. in the Assisi Courtyard (rain: FAC Main Theatre). Students: Starting Feb. 28 through March 11 students will receive an invitation in their email entitled “Win Prizes with Viterbo University and the ACHA-NCHA Survey”. The survey is designed to assess student health behaviors in order to provide better services and support for Viterbo University students. All students who submit a survey will automatically be entered in a random drawing for prizes.For any questions, contact Health Services at 608-796-3806.

The Breaking Barriers Diversity Club has partnered with other campus clubs and departments, UW-L, and WTC to bring the workshop Black + Mental Health+ Matters to Viterbo on Thursday, March 3 from 6–8 p.m. in 196 Nursing. Registration is free. This workshop is co-hosted by the non-profit organization Art with Impact. While this event centers Black students, all campus community members are invited to attend. However, comments or participation from allies that pull focus away from Black mental health will be respectfully redirected.

Nominate a student today for the St. Catherine’s Medal: The St. Catherine’s Medal is awarded to 3–5 students each year who represent the high ideals of a Catholic college education, including but not limited to Viterbo University’s core values of contemplation, hospitality, integrity, stewardship, and service.  Thorough nominations with examples that highlight the impact a student has made are appreciated from Viterbo employees, faculty, and students. CLICK HERE to access the nomination form directly. Nominations are due Friday, March 25 at 12 p.m. For more context about the prestigious award, please click here.

Student Recognition Ceremony: Do you know a student who has made an impact this year at Viterbo? An instructor who has gone above and beyond to guide student organizations/efforts? Consider nominating them for an award at the Student Recognition Ceremony. There are the following categories for recognition: Outstanding Student Leader, Student Organization Member of the Year, Student Organization Project of the Year, Student Service Award, and Involved Faculty Member. Employees: The Wellbeing Coalition is seeking input on your wellbeing needs and interests. Complete this survey by March 4. Survey participants will have the opportunity to be placed for prize drawings valuing between $25-$50 per item. Prizes include, but are not limited to Viterbo gear from the Bookstore.

Employees: Don’t forget to join the Hospitality Committee for Paczkis and Coffee celebrating Mardi Gras in Nursing 195 from 9–10:30 AM tomorrow. Viterbo retirees will join the group from 10–10:30 a.m.

Call for core course proposals: Faculty interested in submitting courses for the new core curriculum category of social justice and equity should complete the course approval form and send it to Jackie Herbers at jmherbers@viterbo.edu. The first round of submissions will be considered by the Core Curriculum Committee at its March 10 meeting.
