The Student Theatre Project is hosting a pop-up thrift store in the Nursing Building Lobby on Friday, Feb. 18 from 2–5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 19 from 1:30–6:30 p.m. Donate your clothing and then come by to thrift some other items. Collection boxes will be located in the Student Union, Bona 545, Canticle 12, Treacy 4, and Clare 402 and 403. The library is seeking donations for our Mental Health Corner, located outside of M110. Items such as manipulatives (e.g., stress balls, pop-its, play-doh, squishies), a book or two on how to knit and/or crochet, and a book or two on stress coping mechanisms or ideas to combat anxiety would be greatly appreciated. Items can be dropped off at the library’s main desk.
The Viterbo NetVUE vocation grant committee (Footsteps), invites you to take part in a book discussion on Parker Palmer’s Let Your Life Speak, Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m.–noon via Zoom. This short read (100 pages) is described as a “....compassionate and compelling meditation on discovering your path in life. With wisdom, compassion, and gentle humor, Parker Palmer invites us to listen to the inner teacher and follow its leadings toward a sense of meaning and purpose....he shares insights gained from darkness and depression, as well as fulfillment and joy, illuminating a pathway toward vocation for all who seek the true calling of their lives.” Pre-registration is appreciated. The Breaking Barriers Diversity Club has partnered with other campus clubs and departments, UW-L. and WTC to bring the workshop Black + Mental Health+ Matters to Viterbo on Thursday, March 3 from 6–8 p.m. in NRC 196. Registration is free.This workshop is co-hosted by the non-profit organization Art with Impact. While this event centers Black students, all campus community members are invited to attend. However, comments or participation from allies that pull focus away from Black mental health will be respectfully redirected.
The Service Saturdays team will be hosting pop-up service opportunities over the next couple weeks focused on advocacy during Black History Month. Sessions are Monday, Feb. 14 from noon–1 p.m. in the Hawk’s Nest; Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 4–5 p.m. in the Student Union; Monday, Feb. 21 from noon–1 p.m.in the Hawk’s Nest; and Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 4–5 p.m. in the Student Union.
Initial resources will be provided for participants to explore various issues (ex: pending critical race theory legislation, disparities in health care, prison pipeline, etc.), but the primary focus will be contacting local/state/federal legislators to advocate for improvements for our community. Stop by to grab-n-go advocacy resources or to write, email, or make phone calls for any specific issues you are passionate about.

David Saunders-Scott, Associate Professor of Psychology, is conducting a study in an effort to understand and improve students’ experience of belonging (feeling ‘at home’, socially connected, supported, respected, and treated as a person of value by peers/faculty/staff). A graduate student is conducting research to examine the risk of eating disorder related behaviors and thoughts in college age students, specifically the incidence in which it occurs in students involved in a health-related area of study versus those in a non-health related area of study. Viterbo dietetic interns Austin Croze Lila Finney are conducting a research study on how are iron levels affected by nutritional counseling and handouts among college students. Viterbo community members 18–30 years of age are invited to participate. People who are smokers, pregnant, breastfeeding, post menopausal and/or have taken iron supplements regularly in the past month are excluded in this study. IIT accepts work-tickets from employees and students, via an online system called Revelation Help Desk. This allows the end-user to submit ticket(s) for technology related issues (i.e. classroom problems, internet connectivity concerns, hardware/software glitches, form access questions, etc). It also contains a self-help knowledge base filled with common questions/answers, to allow the end-user to troubleshoot on their own (i.e. cell phone email setup, password questions, WiFi help, etc).
