VITERBO’S 2016-2017 ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES TO CELEBRATE MILESTONES

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2016-2017 One-of-a-Kind-Chamber Music Series at Viterbo University will kick off in September with a theme of Anniversaries – Celebrating Milestones in honor of some key anniversaries for those involved with the series.

The first concert in the series, Heritage: A Mosaic of Musical Artistry, will take place Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature performances by current and former faculty members of the Viterbo music department, including Jerry Benser, Mark Tollefsen, Diane Foust, Nancy Allen, Ann Schoenecker, Timothy Schorr, and Mary Ellen Haupert.

“We are excited to celebrate our heritage and feature many of our wonderful music professors who have been instrumental to the success of the department over the years,” said Mary Ellen Haupert, artistic director of the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series. “It’s a wonderful way to kick off the season and celebrate with our students and the community.”

The season will continue Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. with a performance by the Artaria String Quartet, who is celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2016. The relationship between Haupert and Artaria's members has been central to the series' programming for several years, making this Anniversaries series meaningful on both personal and professional levels. The quartet will perform a program called Czech It Out: The Music of Janáček and Dvořák along with Haupert on piano. Artaria will perform again Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. with violist Renée Skerik and cellist Laura Thielke, former members of the quartet. This concert will feature a program called Italian Souvenirs: The Music of Wolf and Tchaikovsky.

The series will conclude Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. with a celebration of 100 years of Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR), a sponsor of the series. Haupert and violinist Nancy Oliveros will perform Sonatas from 1917: The Music of Debussy and Respighi to commemorate WPR’s founding year.

Season tickets are on sale now through Aug. 12 and can be purchased by contacting the Viterbo Box Office at 608-796-3100. Season ticket packages are $58 for all four performances. More information about the performances may be found at www.viterbo.edu/fac.
