VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT ON THE VERGE AT THE WEBER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS NOV.
15–17, NOV. 22–24
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University will present the comedy On the Verge at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts Friday,
Nov. 15–Sunday, Nov. 17 and Friday, Nov. 22–Sunday, Nov. 24.
Written by Eric Overmyer, On the Verge follows the adventures of
three Victorian women explorers who make their way through time and the newly
discovered land of Terra Incognita. The women come from different backgrounds,
but each is brave, willing, and yearns to see it all.
“Along the way, they explore
feminism, language, imagination, and most of all, the human desire to wander
unmapped places both inside and outside of ourselves,” said Rick Walters,
Viterbo faculty member and director of the production. “Audiences will enjoy
the humor of it. It’s a funny and surprising play that delights in the use of
language.”
During their journey, the women
encounter eight male characters (all played by the same actor) who represent different
aspects of masculinity as they journey from 1888 to 1955. The Weber Center
provides the actors with a more intimate performance venue that is perfect for this
production, Walters said.
“We chose On the Verge because it’s a postmodern piece and it’s a style we
haven’t delved into for a while,” Walters said. “It has realistic characters in
an unrealistic setting, and it’s a very interesting project for student design
work.”
The cast of On the Verge is Katie Carney, Joe Gay, Katie Gehrmann, and Katey
Slinger. Marie Freese is the assistant director, Alex Connor is the set
designer, Andy Krage is the lighting designer, and Abbie Cain is the props
designer. It is produced through special arrangement with Broadway Play
Publishing Inc.
Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15–16 and Nov.
22–23 and 2 p.m. Nov. 17 and Nov. 24. Tickets are $20 for reserved seating. For
more information or to order tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at
