VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT THE OPERAS RIDERS TO THE SEA AND THE IMPRESARIO SEPT. 24–25

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The outstanding singers of the Viterbo University music department will perform two one-act operas, Riders to the Sea and The Impresario, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

In Riders to the Sea by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Maurya, an elderly Irishwoman, has lost her husband, father-in-law, and four of her sons to the sea. The opera opens as her fifth son, Michael, has been found washed ashore and her youngest son, Bartley, prepares to leave for the coast.

The Impresario is a comedic opera that tells the tale of Frank, the impresario, who auditions Madame Goldentrill and Miss Silverpeal to be part of his new theatrical company. While both are hired, an argument ensues about who will get the leading role and who will be the highest paid.

Guest artist Brent Wilson is directing the performances. Tickets are $14 for general admission seating. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
