VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT A DECADE OF CHANGE, A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE 1960S JULY 21-23

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Fine Arts Center will present A Decade of Change: Traveling through the Musical Styles of the 1960s Thursday, July 21–Saturday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre Lobby.

This summertime cabaret-style performance was the brainchild of Nancy Allen, associate professor of music at Viterbo University, who wanted to provide performance opportunities for students, alumni, and members of the community throughout the summer months when there may not be as many artistic activities occurring.

“We have a number of talented students and individuals in the community who are looking for an opportunity to perform outside of the school year,” said Allen, who is directing the performance. “Summer is a quieter time, and we thought this might be a great opportunity to showcase our students, as well as giving them the opportunity to work with other artists in the community.”

A Decade of Change will showcase the musical styles of the 1960s from the British Invasion to Motown, folk, and protest songs. Audiences will hear iconic songs like Here Comes the Sun, Heard it Through the Grapevine, Bridge over Troubled Waters, and Sweet Caroline, among others. The show, which is broken into two acts, includes sets which highlight the music of female artists, the songs of Burt Bacharach, Pop and Bubblegum music, and the folk generation, in addition to the British Invasion and Motown.

The performances will take place in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center’s Main Theatre and will include a cash bar, providing a more casual, cabaret-style atmosphere.

“There was so much popular music from the ‘60s that we thought this would appeal to a lot of people,” Allen said. “Performing in a cabaret-style setting like this allows us to create a really fun and relaxed atmosphere where people can come with their friends and enjoy a night of great music.”

The cast includes Kari Bersagel-Braley, Maureen Breuer, Chloe Gorman, Anna Hogan, Beth Lakmann, Kim Shively, Kayla Shue, and Joan Waniger. Allen will accompany the cast on piano.

Tickets are $18 for general admission seating and can be purchased by contacting the Viterbo Box Office at 608-796-3100 or visiting www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
