VITERBO UNIVERSITY OUT-OF-OUR-MINDS CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES CONTINUES WITH SILENCED COMPOSERS APRIL 6

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Out-of-Our-Minds Chamber Music Series at Viterbo University at concludes for the academic year with Silenced Composers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6 in the Fine Arts Center Nola Starling Recital Hall.

Silenced Composers will feature music by composers driven out of Germany by the Nazis and blacklisted “in absentia.” It will also include the world premiere of composer William Neil’s new work Objets Trouvés. Performing will be Viterbo faculty member Mary Ellen Haupert on piano and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse faculty member Jonathan Borja on flute. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of Suite Modale for Flute and Piano, B. 95 (1956) by Ernest Bloch; Sonata for Flute and Piano (1936) by Paul Hindemith; Objets Trouvés (2018) by William Neil; and First Sonata for Flute and Piano (1951) by Bohuslav Jan Martinů.

“It’s always a special pleasure to collaborate with my colleague across town,” Haupert said. “Jonathan Borja is an exciting performer, as well as an intellectual, so he delves deeply into every piece he performs. He will deliver program notes from the stage, which will be profoundly engaging. William Neil’s piece was written especially for this program—another reason to attend this unique concert experience.”

The recital hall can be accessed from the Assisi Courtyard (north) side of the building as remodeling of the first floor of the Fine Arts Center is underway. Signs will be posted to direct patrons to the venue.

The entertaining and educational concerts of the Out-of-Our-Minds Chamber Music Series are designed to increase the accessibility, opportunity, and exposure to high quality classical music.
