VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIP FOR COLLEGE READINESS PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University will offer a $1,000 per year (up to $4,000) scholarship to students who have participated in a college readiness program in high school and who enroll at the university starting fall 2017.

Programs that would qualify for the scholarship include Advancement Via Individual Determination, Upward Bound, College Possible, Chicago Scholars, GEAR UP, Talent Search, and others.

“Across the country we have seen the benefits of college readiness programs in preparing students for the rigors of a college education,” said Brian Weber, Viterbo director of undergraduate admission. “We think these students are really taking a great step in their education and lives, and we wanted to recognize their efforts through the scholarship.”

The scholarship is a natural extension of the Viterbo’s core values. The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) who founded Viterbo have had a long history of supporting underserved groups.

College readiness programs are a popular resource for high school students that may benefit from extra help and mentorship. Many of the programs offer study help, standardized test preparation, mentorship opportunities, and college preparation.

By introducing this scholarship, Weber hopes that students will discover everything Viterbo has to offer, including excellent academics and a close campus community.

To qualify for Viterbo’s College Readiness Scholarship, students should apply and be accepted for admission to Viterbo by Feb. 1, 2017. An online application can be found at www.viterbo.edu/apply.
