VITERBO UNIVERSITY CONSERVATORY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS TO PRESENT THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL APRIL 10–13; SPECIAL AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE VIEWING SECTION AVAILABLE APRIL 13

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Dive into a whimsical underwater world where SpongeBob and his friends sing, dance, and save the day as the Viterbo University Conservatory for the Performing Arts presents The SpongeBob Musical Thursday, April 10–Sunday, April 13 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The SpongeBob Musical follows SpongeBob SquarePants and the other citizens of Bikini Bottom as they attempt to avert a volcanic eruption that could wipe out their undersea world. It’s a colorful, whimsical, funny production that will inspire audiences of all ages to celebrate friendship, resilience, and the power of optimism.

“Much like the cartoon, The SpongeBob Musical combines many different genres of music and styles of dance—all in a colorful package that while silly and goofy, is also poignant and surprisingly sobering,” said Viterbo faculty member Teddy Eck, the director of the production. “Our goal with this production of SpongeBob the Musical is to delight and entertain, but also to help shed light on our own inner SpongeBob. Though we may not be absorbent, yellow, and porous as he, we can stand up to our own Mount Humongous, because we are ‘Not A Simple Sponge.’”

This Viterbo production stars students Clay Corley as SpongeBob, Braydon Dayne as Patrick, McKenzie Russ as Sandy, Connor Martin as Squidward, Robby Alston as Mr. Krabs, Sophie La Fave as Pearl, Zack Lichner as Plankton, and Kayla Taylor as Karen.

“We are so excited to welcome audiences to the world of Bikini Bottom, where music is as vibrant, diverse, and colorful as those who inhabit the underwater landscape itself,” said music director Sarah Tellier. “The music in this show is a celebration of creativity and innovation, with songs from a wide array of pop artists that were such a joy to bring to life, as they are dynamic, fun, and gave our cast the opportunity to be creative and explore the exciting and delightful nature of their characters. This show proves that no matter what world we live in, music is a universal language that unites us all in the most unexpected ways. I hope you’ll boogie with us as we embrace the Bikini Bottom Way!”

The SpongeBob Musical is based on the Nickelodeon television series SpongeBob SquarePants by Stephen Hillenburg. Book is by Kyle Jarrow. The musical production is conceived by Tina Landau. The SpongeBob Musical is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. www.concordtheatricals.com.
