The outstanding singers of the Viterbo music department will perform two one-act operas, Riders to the Sea and The Impresario, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
In Riders to the Sea by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Maurya, an elderly Irishwoman, has lost her husband, father-in-law, and four of her sons to the sea. The opera opens as her fifth son, Michael, has been found washed ashore and her youngest son, Bartley, prepares to leave for the coast.
The Impresario is a comedic opera which tells the tale of Frank, the impresario, who auditions Madame Goldentrill and Miss Silverpeal to be part of his new theatrical company. While both are hired, an argument ensues about who will get the leading role and who will be the highest paid.
Guest artist Brent Wilson is directing the performances. Visit the box office for tickets.
