VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST THE WOLVES AT THE WEBER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS NOV. 9–11

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University theatre and music theatre students will present The Wolves, a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov.9-Saturday, Nov. 10 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

The Wolves, written by Sarah DeLappe, is the story of a girls’ high school soccer team of the same name, set in an indoor soccer field in suburban America. During their warm-ups before each game, we get to listen in as the team navigates life’s big questions while they prepare for battle on and off the field with the strength and determination of a pack of warriors. The play is described as “a smart, heartfelt, hilarious meditation on society and soccer.” 

“It is rare that we get to see a show told through the perspective of women in this way,” said Erin Jerozal, the Viterbo theatre and music theatre department faculty member who is directing The Wolves. “The play is fresh and unique in that the female characters are not identified in relation to who can make a claim on them (as a daughter, girlfriend, sister), but rather they are identified by their way of attempting to navigate, handle and make sense for themselves of the ever-changing world.”

The Weber Center is proving to be a great venue for The Wolves, as the more intimate setting will allow the audience to feel like they are right there in the warm-up circle with the players, Jerozal explained.

“I’ve been so impressed with the passion and commitment from all of the actors, as they rehearse and explore and try new things with the goal of telling this story in an honest and compelling way,” said Jerozal, who is making her Viterbo directing debut. “I have loved coming to rehearsal every day, to discover together what else we can learn about these women and this story.”

The Wolves is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
