Viterbo to Present Dancing at Lughnasa at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts Feb. 3–4, 10–11

Thursday, January 26, 2017

Viterbo will present the Tony Award-winning drama Dancing at Lughnasa at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3–Saturday, Feb. 4 and Friday, Feb. 10–Saturday, Feb. 11.

Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel, Ireland’s greatest playwright, is a story of nostalgia and stark reality set in the fictional Irish town of Ballybeg in 1936. It is a memory play told from the point of view of the narrator who spent the summer in his aunts’ cottage when he was seven years old. While the Mundy sisters prepare for their village harvest celebration, their brother Michael, a priest, returns from missionary work to remind everyone of the desperate need for community, happiness, dancing, and celebration.

Dancing at Lughnasa received the Tony Award for Best Play in 1992. It is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, New York. This Viterbo production is directed by Rick Walters.
