VITERBO UNIVERSITY ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES CONTINUES WITH CZECH IT OUT: THE MUSIC OF JANÁČEK AND DVOŘÁK NOV. 13

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2016-17 Viterbo University One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series continues Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall with Czech It Out: The Music of Janáček and Dvořák, featuring the Artaria String Quartet and pianist Mary Ellen Haupert.

The Artaria String Quartet is celebrating their 30th anniversary and will perform two concerts as part of the 2016-17 One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series. This first concert will feature performances of Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 76, No. 4, Sunrise; Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1, Kreutzer Sonata; and Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81.

“The 30th anniversary of the Artaria String Quartet was the inspiration for the theme of this year’s Celebrating Milestones series,” said Mary Ellen Haupert, artistic director for the series. “The One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series was created with the Artaria String Quartet as the central attraction, primarily to continue the relationship they fostered when they were in residency at Viterbo University in the mid-1990s. We are proud that this series is part of the quartet’s great heritage of chamber music making by sponsoring two special concerts this year.”

The third concert of the series will take place Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. with Italian Souvenirs: The Music of Wolf and Tchaikovsky featuring the Artaria String Quartet with former quartet members violist Renée Skerik and cellist Laura Thielke. Both Skerik and Thielke lived and worked in La Crosse when the quartet was in residence at Viterbo University, so their return to the Recital Hall stage is a reunion for the quartet and the audience.

Both the November and February concerts are sponsored by the Lukasek Family Endowment Fund. Wisconsin Public Radio is the media sponsor for the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music performances.

Tickets are $22 for general admission seating. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
