VITERBO EMPLOYEES HONORED AT ANNUAL ROSE AWARDS CEREMONY
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Scott Gabriel, biochemistry, was named the 2023 Teacher of the Year at the annual Viterbo University Rose Awards ceremony May 4.
“Dr. Gabriel is an amazing teacher and motivator for the students in his classes and the science programs in general,” wrote a student who nominated him for the award. “He is always trying to push his students to make the most of their abilities, and he inspires confidence their future endeavors will be successful.”
Dillon McArdle, director of the Fine Arts Center, was named Employee of the Year.
“Dillon always manages to find ways for the show to go on with a smile, laughter, and uplifting energy,” wrote a person who nominated him for the award. “He’s encouraging and kind, empathetic and enthusiastic, and truly cares about the work, the people, and the mission of the Fine Arts Center.”
Others honored at the Rose Awards were:
- Naomi Stennes-Spidahl, assessment and institutional research, received the Sr. Helen Elsbernd Distinguished Service Award, which is presented to a person who has provided outstanding service to the university for more than 20 years, typically in more than one capacity.
- David Saunders-Scott, psychology, was presented with the Alec Chiu Award, which is given for exceptional work in fostering and developing scholarly opportunities for both students and faculty.
- Physical plant grounds crew Tom Dostal, Mike Schumacher, and Dan Russell received the Pax et Bonum Award, which is given in recognition of demonstrating the Franciscan values of service, respect, hospitality, stewardship, and joy throughout the Viterbo community.
- Kassea Krueger, academic advising, was presented with the Outstanding Advisor of the Year award for her work with students.
- Alumna Ann Kiel was presented with the St. Francis Mission Award, which is given to a person who has demonstrated exemplary dedication to the mission of the university.
- Receiving Servant Leader Awards for outstanding leadership were Andrew Hamilton, ethics, culture, and society, Sarah Bearbower, instructional and information technology, Tim Neve, physical plant, Courtney Steinke, communications, and Jackie Herbers, English.
- Receiving Outstanding Adjunct Professor Awards for their respective schools were Eric Pederson, College of Business, Leadership, Ethics, and Education; Kathryn Koehne, College of Nursing and Health; Michael Konkel, College of Engineering, Letters, and Sciences; and Mike Speck, Conservatory for the Performing Arts.
