The Viterbo University Tailfeathers dance team attended the 2017 Dance Xtreme National Competition Feb. 24–Feb. 26.
The Tailfeathers competed in the Collegiate Pom division, where they placed fourth. That placement was just outside of the top three medal positions by less than half a point on a 100-point scale. They also competed in the Collegiate Lyrical division. They are most proud of having accomplished a third place finish in Lyrical. Click for photos from the competition.
"This team consists of hard-working young women,” said Brandy Cleveland, nursing, the Tailfeathers' advisor. “They commit to an extensive dance season, which spans from September through April, representing the university at events like the Friar Frolic and Historic Downtown La Crosse Day, performing during halftime of basketball games, completing fundraising, and attending dance competitions. Even with this time commitment, they maintain high GPAs. At the DX competition, they received an Academic Excellence award for the team’s average GPA of over 3.5. The team is also self-coached and they choreograph all their own routines. I’m very proud of their accomplishments.”
To see the team’s competition routines, as well as other dance showcase numbers, attend their annual recital, at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25 in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
