VITERBO UNIVERSITY BRIGHT STAR SEASON TO CONTINUE WITH THE RODNEY MARSALIS PHILADELPHIA BIG BRASS NOV. 7
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Internationally acclaimed brass ensemble The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.
The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass traces its origins to the streets of New Orleans and today features some of the country’s top brass musicians. The group is dedicated to bringing the joyous experience of great music to a wide range of audiences.
The program to be performed at Viterbo is entitled Brothers on the Battlefield.
“The concert constantly hits on that theme—the conflict that happens between people, and the one binding element that keeps us all together, which is love,” said Rodney Marsalis, of Brothers on the Battlefield. “So, the battlefield is really life, and then Brothers on the Battlefield is about those conflicts that happen in life, and it’s very timely for what’s going on in our society.”
The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass has performed at some of the world’s most prominent venues and with groups such as the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Baltimore Symphony, the São Paolo State Symphony Orchestra, the Imani Winds, Canadian Brass, Empire Brass, Dallas Brass, and Boston Brass. In recent years the group has been invited to perform in major music halls around the world, including China’s National Center for the Performing Arts.
This performance is sponsored in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. WXOW-News 19 and Wisconsin Public Radio are the media sponsors.
Tickets are $36 for main floor, $32 for lower balcony, and $26 for upper balcony seating. For tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
