Viterbo will offer a bachelor degree completion program in social work beginning in fall 2020.

The program is designed for people who have an associate degree in human services or a related field who want to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in social work within two years. Classes are offered in a combination of on-campus evening and online hybrid format ideal for working professionals.

“Earning a bachelor’s degree and becoming a credentialed social worker opens up great career opportunities,” said faculty member Jennifer Anderson-Meger, the director of the Viterbo social work program. “Social work is a very holistic profession, and social workers are needed in medical settings, community-based services for the elderly, and disabilities, mental health, substance abuse, and child/family programs.”

Viterbo University social work graduates had a 98–100 percent pass rate on the national Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) certification exam over the past six years. The national average pass rate is 70 percent. Viterbo graduates with a degree in social work also enjoy a 100 percent placement rate in the workforce or graduate school. Students in the degree completion program remain together in a cohort model throughout their studies, ensuring they get to know and can support each other well.

“The Viterbo social work program has an excellent reputation with regional employers,” said Anderson-Meger. “It also includes a unique emphasis on ethics and writing.”

Students considering a bachelor’s degree in social work are also welcome to enroll in Viterbo’s traditional daytime undergraduate program.
