V-Hawks Pitted Against Baker in NAIA Opening Round

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time sicne 2012, the Viterbo University women's soccer team is headed back to the NAIA National Tournament. The National Championship Qualifiers and opening round pairings were released Monday morning and the V-Hawks found out they will head to No. 11 Baker University on Saturday.

The National Tournament appearance is just the second in school history and first in three seasons. Viterbo has had an incredible run to end the season, recording 10 straight victories and earning the highest ranking in program history at No. 20. On November 8, the V-Hawks capped the season with a 2-1 victory over (RV) Bellevue University to earn the North Star Athletic Association's automatic bid to the National Tournament.

Viterbo's offense has been a major key to success this season, as they have scored a conference best 50 goals, averaging 2.63 per contest. Seniors Molly Machometa (SR/McHenry, Ill.) and Cait Michicich (SR/Westmont, Ill.) have been key, totaling goals for the V-Hawks. During their winning streak, Viterbo has outscored opponents 31-6 with 10 goals coming off the foot of Machometa. In goal, Alicia Seachord (SR/Lincoln, Neb. ) has been tough, recording three shutouts and a goals against average of 0.53 in the last 10 matches.

In the V-Hawks last trip to the National Tournament, Viterbo was ousted by No. 11 Olivet Nazarene after the Tigers netted a score in the 69th minute for a 2-1 win.

The opening round matchup at Baker University will be the third all-time game between the V-Hawks and Wildcats.
