Many students go off to college undecided on a major or field of study. Not Viterbo University music theatre major Connor Martin, however.

“I’ve always just known what I’ve wanted to do,” said Martin, a junior from Hartford, who was cast in a local production of The Wizard of Oz at the young age of five and has been a regular in music theatre productions ever since.

Martin said he choose to attend Viterbo because of the university’s small class sizes and academic reputation.

“I love it at Viterbo,” he said. “In my job as tour guide, I can honestly tell prospective students that I don’t think I would be as happy anywhere else. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I feel very supported, and I can see myself growing as a student and a person.”

Martin has performed in the Viterbo University Conservatory for the Performing Arts production The Pirates of Penzance, 42nd Street, and Godspell. He has also been cast in this spring’s The SpongeBob Musical.

“I would definitely recommend the Viterbo music theatre program,” Martin said. “I have experienced a great deal of growth in my performances. I have learned a lot.”

Martin and 39 other students and faculty members also took advantage of a once in a lifetime educational opportunity during Christmas break. The group embarked on a theatre trip to London, where they saw 16 shows in 11 days, Stonehenge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and other sites.

In addition to music theatre, other academics, and his campus jobs, Martin is also a member of the men’s cross country and track and field teams, serves as the vice president of the Viterbo Student Government Association, and is a representative on the Student Theatre Project.

“I like to stay busy and involved,” Martin said. “Google calendar is my best friend.”

After graduating in May of 2026, Martin would like to work for Disney World and eventually be cast in a national touring production.

“Maybe one day I’ll get involved in arts education,” he said.
