This past Saturday, 35 students and one staff member met on the Viterbo campus at 8 a.m. to prepare for a morning of community service. Following a send-off by campus ministry, students traveled to service sites and assisted with the Children’s Museum’s “17th Birthday Party” anniversary event, worked on the interior of a local Habitat for Humanity house, and sorted donated items and stocked shelves and racks at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Students engaged in reflective conversations over lunch following their service, and those volunteering at the Salvation Army participated in a framing activity prior to arriving at the store to help them better understand the realities and challenges of many of the organization’s clients. While Service Saturdays is primarily geared toward students, faculty and staff and their families are welcome to participate. Mark your calendar for the two remaining Service Saturdays this semester, March 19 and April 9. To sign up or learn more about the initiative, visit www.viterbo.edu/service-saturdays. Questions?
