May graduates of the undergraduate nursing program, Molly Keiser and Sarah Pronschinske accompanied Viterbo School of Nursing Dean Martha Scheckel to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Deans Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., this past March, where they attended the AACN Student Policy Summit. The summit is a 3-day conference where students deepen their knowledge of policy and advocacy. One of their stops included a visit to the offices of Wisconsin legislators on Capitol Hill, where they advocated for addressing hot-button issues such as nursing workforce development, the opioid epidemic, and gun violence. “The AACN policy summit really opened my eyes to the important role advocacy plays in the nursing profession,” said Keiser. “Nurses have voices that should be heard on a local, state, and national level. The summit was an incredible experience because we had the opportunity to connect with others who share the same passion.”
