A bus load of 22 Viterbo students recently made the cross-state drive to Appleton’s Fox Cities Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The team is a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate team and follows a long tradition of minor league baseball excellence in Appleton. A one-hour guided tour introduced all aspects of the facility to the students: mezzanine area, box seats, media center, strength training, dugout, bullpen, and even the “family beach” beyond the right-center wall.
The next stop was Green Bay. The tour group had free time in Lambeau Field’s atrium, shop, and Hall-of-Fame followed by the legendary two-hour tour. Many were wowed at the growth of the franchise and the playing field(s) for the Packers, with its history going back to 1919. Two knowledgeable guides took the group to the top of Lambeau, to numerous corporate areas, the visiting locker room, a jog down “the player’s tunnel” with accompanying crowd roar, and down onto Lambeau’s famed sideline, as the playing field is off-limits to tours. Student feedback about the “Sport Leadership Super Tour II” was extremely positive. The trip was supported by ALM Charities.
