RING OF FIRE: THE LIFE AND MUSIC OF
JOHNNY CASH AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY SEPT. 13
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – The 2013–14 Viterbo University Bright Star Season will open
with Ring of Fire: The Life and Music of
Johnny Cash at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 in the Fine Arts Center Main
Theatre.
Ring
of Fire: The Life and Music of Johnny Cash is a musical revue exploring the
life and times of legendary musical artist Johnny Cash. It is considered one of
the best jukebox musicals of our time and features more than 35 classic songs,
including Ring of Fire, I Walk the Line, I’ve Been Everywhere, and Folsom
Prison Blues.
“Most of the songs in the show are
songs people already know,” show creator Richard Maltby Jr. said previously.
“And yet put together in an evening, they tell a story. Johnny had the soul of
a poet, and when you listen to these songs together you hear the something in
them that is surprising. It’s the story of America. Perhaps it is an America
that doesn’t exist anymore, but it certainly exists in our American mythology.”
Ring of Fire:
The Life and Music of Johnny Cash is
sponsored by U.S. Bank and in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board,
with funds from the State of Wisconsin. KICKS 106.3 FM is the media sponsor and
Candlewood Suites of La Crosse is the hotel sponsor.
